our history

Christiana is a rural village nestled in the hills of Lancaster County, Pa. The town became historically significant prior to the Civil War by what was known as the "Christiana Riot." Christiana Cabinetry began in 1976 in Christiana, PA and operated its business there until 2003, when it purchased an old feed mill and rebuilt in Atglen, PA, a tiny village bordering Christiana. Many Old Order Amish farmers tend the surrounding communities; their commitment to the land is still evident today as many families continue working the land without the luxury of electricity or other modern conveniences.

Founder of Christiana Cabinetry, Gerald Metzler began his cabinetry business as a hobby while working on his family farm. While farming was his first love, an unfortunate farm accident prohibited Gerald from career farming, forcing him to start another career. In an old chicken house on the family farm, Winding Glen Woodcraft began as a furniture and small cabinet shop. To sustain business and increase volume, Gerald realized that he needed to expand outside the confines of Lancaster County. A designer was hired and they moved out of the chicken house into a small office in the borough of Christiana. Business continued to grow, with a higher demand for kitchen cabinetry, and less demand for furniture goods. After recruiting several Designer Showrooms, furniture making ceased all together and a dealer network was established.

Today, Christiana Cabinetry manufactures only for an authorized dealer network with designer showrooms located throughout the continental US, Bermuda and Canada. Because of his farming experience, strong work ethic, superior employees, Gerald has built Christiana Cabinetry into a well respected, thriving business in the Christiana/Atglen communities.

Our commitment to the environment has led us to be a pioneer in using 100% formaldehyde free plywood. The plywood we use is purchased only from managed wood forests in the United States. We are participating members of the National Kitchen & Bath Association, and the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association. In addition, we are ESP (Environmental Stewardship Program) certified through KCMA. Our finishes are formaldehyde, HAPS and isocyanate free. We are CARB 2 compliant, exceed all ANSI standards for harmful emissions and meet LEED green building standards.
