In 1976, Gerald Metzler founded Christiana Cabinetry. While his first great love is farming, Jerry always enjoyed building things. Having taken woodworking all four years of high school, his shop teacher saw great potential in Jerry’s ability to build beautiful furniture and encouraged him to consider other options should a career in farming not work out. After graduating from high school and then participating in a foreign exchange program, Jerry’s perspective shifted. He started making furniture in an abandoned chicken house on his father’s farm. Building furniture was enjoyable but hours were very long since working on the farm was still a part of life. As business increased, the need for employees was essential and a store opened in the little town of Intercourse, where furniture could be marketed and sold. An unfortunate accident on the farm prevented Jerry from continuing his career on the farm, so he focused his energy and attention to the building the business. Through the years, the nature of the business changed from furniture to built-in furniture to kitchens. Eventually, out growing the chicken house, a 5,000 sq. ft. machine shop was purchased and the operation moved in July 1989. In the early 1990’s the business migrated into building cabinetry for a dealer network. Today Christiana Cabinetry operates in a 29,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility that produces the finest quality cabinetry for every room in your home.
While his focus is Christiana Cabinetry, farming is still a great passion and being the good steward that he is, he continues to plant and harvest each year a few acres of the farm where he was raised. His strong sense of community and the desire to contribute by providing jobs and supporting local ministries drives Jerry to work even harder. Jerry contributes his success not only to God but is thankful for the privilege of working with incredibly gifted craftsman here at Christiana as well as talented designers some of which have been with him from the beginning.
Today, Christiana Cabinetry manufactures only for an authorized showroom network with designers located throughout the continental US, Bermuda, Canada and Europe.
